‘Art is about playing…’

‘It’s about beauty and wonder. About being here and now. A play of impressions and expressions. To be completely absorbed in what arises in this moment. Moving through that, discovering, and communicating from there. To perceive and participate. Art comes from the heart. The dancing heart. Life is one big dance, of which we are just small parts. Inspiring non-stop. I take so much pleasure in expressing this in paint.’

– Lennaert Koorman

  • Lennaert, born in Amersfoort in 1975, is a visual artist in Krimpen aan de Lek, close to Rotterdam. His practice consists of developing and executing visual art expressions autonomously and on commission. Often in public spaces, but also in galleries, schools, companies and events. His work hangs with collectors in the Netherlands and abroad.
  • Lennaert was Resident Artist for Winsor & Newton and Liquitex. As such, he was one of the founders of The Fine Art Collective in the Netherlands, an international art movement that set up collaborations in art projects for as many different artists as possible. In this role, Lennaert regularly gave guest lessons and clinics at various art academies in the Netherlands. He has done many projects, especially at Minerva Academy in Groningen, the Classical Academy and AKI Enschede.
  • In 2002, Lennaert was the founder, together with Robert Rost, of the Rotterdam art collective Monkidoe, which was active in making street art portraits until 2013. Together they were guests on the television program ‘Sterren op het doek’ by Hanneke Groenteman. Especially with the spray can, they portrayed many Rotterdam residents on walls, transformer stations and waste bins.
